Healthcare Community

Creating and nurturing vital connections to academia and the profession are critical mandates for HDR's Healthcare Group as we seek to improve the healthcare experience not just for this generation, but for generations to come.

HDR partners with Academia to Create Healthcare Design Studio

During the past year, HDR Architecture sponsored the inaugural Graduate Program in Healthcare Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). We believe it is our duty as an international leader in healthcare design to improve health and healing experiences in the built environment, in part by sharing our intellectual capital to supplement higher educations' preparation of the next generation of design professionals—the leaders who will advance the development of healing environments in the future.

It is our hope that the UNL healthcare design studio lays the foundations for a new way of educating emerging professionals by immersing them in research-based design decisions, professional connections, and interdisciplinary relationships. This new studio and related research-based classes have offered students a window into the world of working professional practice, the problems, the strengths and the profession's future.

What we discovered through this experience is that partnering with faculty and students from all disciplines in both research and design is a mutually rewarding and invigorating endeavor. In this way the profession becomes quite literally on the cutting edge of new ideas.

The UNL program is one we hope will be a model for future university alliances as well.
