Thomas Wallen Named Healthcare Principal in Atlanta

Thomas K. Wallen, AIA, ACHA, has joined HDR Architecture, Inc. as healthcare principal in the Atlanta, GA office. Wallen will be responsible for strengthening HDR’s architecture practice in the Southeast by focusing on client relationships and developing marketing strategies.

Wallen joins HDR with more than 30 years experience in the healthcare design field working with the private sector, public sector, academic medical centers and as well as international healthcare providers in Asia. He is skilled at serving and satisfying multiple stakeholders on every project and is especially well-known for acting as the owner’s advocate and voice in the planning, design and construction process. He is a champion for the power of teamwork, believing that the synergy of a team effort empowers members to perform at their peak and further develop their skills. He ensures team understanding of design concepts and their effect on quality, safety, process, culture and cost.

Wallen is also personally and professionally committed to quality improvement. His designs have been recognized nationally and internationally for their contributions to improved medical outcomes, operational efficiencies and lower construction costs. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and is widely published in the design, construction and healthcare fields.

Since 2007, Wallen served as director of Walsh Healthcare Solutions for The Walsh Group in Chicago, IL. Before that, he was with Gresham, Smith and Partners for nearly 23 years, where he was a healthcare principal and partner.
