Bringing over 24 years of experience in energy management and building performance, Mark Imel, PE., has joined HDR Architecture as Energy Services Director, based in Kansas City, MO. He will be responsible for assisting clients and project teams in designing energy-efficient buildings and in retrofitting existing buildings to be more energy efficient. He will prioritize HDR’s energy efficiency and energy management service offerings and develop and manage staff to carry out these services for clients.
Imel’s experience includes extensive use of energy simulation and life-cycle cost software, conducting long-term field studies of buildings, leading investment-grade audits for single buildings and campuses, and developing and implementing energy conservation projects. He has also taught higher education classes in energy analysis, system controls and indoor air quality.
Imel has provided energy consulting services to government, institutional, correctional, education, military, hospitality, aviation, commercial and industrial clients. Because of this diverse client base, he has worked with many types of facilities, analyzed energy use in diverse climate regions, and worked with clients of varying economic and organizational constraints to develop energy conservation solutions.
He is on a number of national technical and standards committees, including the U.S. Technical Advisory Group, the ANSI-accredited group that develops and presents the United States’ position relative to the new international standard, ISO 50001 Energy Management.
