For the second consecutive year, HDR Architecture has brought home a “Best of Year” award for product design from Interior Design magazine. Following up on last year’s award for SYNC™, this year the product development team took top honors in the healthcare product category for the Grand Island Sleeper Sofa. Designed by HDR Architecture in collaboration with David Edward, this high-performance seating and sleeping solution embodies multi-functional durability, and the ultimate in patient and visitor comfort.
“We all know how important family members are to the patient caregiving process,” noted Steve LaHood, vice president and head of the HDR Collaborations group. “Our goal with the Grand Island Sleeper was to focus on visitor comfort, to provide a stylish and tangible symbol of a hospital’s desire to put families first. We also knew that what we designed needed to be comfortable and, of course, highly durable to withstand the wear and tear associated with healthcare furnishings.”
The Interior Design “Best of Year” Awards honor exceptional interior design products and projects in more than 50 categories. A jury of peers judges the competitors, as the voting is restricted to members of the design community. The honors were announced at a special awards ceremony on December 3, 2009, at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
