Ahmad Soueid Appointed to IEST Executive Board

The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) Executive Board has appointed Ahmad Soueid, AIA, LEED AP, as IAC Vice President effective immediately. Soueid is a highly respected leader in the design and construction of advanced research facilities. As director of HDR Architecture Inc.’s Advanced Research Program, he has led the design of break-through research facilities including first-generation nanotechnology facilities. He has also served as a consultant for the design and construction of numerous advanced research facilities worldwide.

Soueid is a strong supporter of IEST, having chaired the Contamination Control Division’s Working Group NANO-200 since its inception. Working Group NANO-200 is dedicated to publishing planning, programming, design and construction guidelines for nanotech facilities. According to Roberta Burrows, CAE, Executive Director of IEST, Soueid’s appointment also reflects the Executive Board’s intention to expand the role of the IAC VP to encourage IEST global participation and recognition, and to expand IEST’s role as liaison to similar associations in foreign countries.

In addition to his work with IEST, Soueid has been active in promoting the dissemination of lessons learned regarding the design and construction of nanoscale research for over a decade. To further advance and share knowledge regarding nanotech facilities, Ahmad serves as co-chairman of the Buildings for Advanced Technology Workshop Series organized in part by the U.S. National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO). Ahmad also authors “nanoTALK,” a regular column in Controlled Environments Magazine. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics related to the design and construction of critical environments, and will be chairing a two-part Nanotechnology session at IEST's annual technical meeting this May, ESTECH 2010, in Reno, NV. He is also scheduled to be a keynote speaker at the UGIM 2010 University Government Industry Micro/Nano Symposium this June at Purdue University.
