Serving as a neighborhood anchor, the Kroc Center will offer arts, education and recreation programs supported by an aquatics complex, a gymnasium, classrooms designed for conventional learning, an assembly complex and administrative offices. The center consists of three forms—education, worship and recreation—that intertwine with two adjacent existing parks to create a communal environment that embraces the energy of the surrounding neighborhood. The recreational component anchors the site, serving as a back drop to the worship element. Bridging the worship element and recreational component is the educational program element. This bar of flexible classrooms physically ties the complex together, terminating in the upper level of the main assembly room and providing a defined point of building and site entry. Together, the three volumes establish the “Festival Plaza” for communal gatherings.
