The new 208-bed Metro Health Hospital, an osteopathic teaching hospital, is distinguished by a healthy, nurturing environment. Designers purposefully incorporated elements to make patients and visitors more comfortable, provide healing connections to nature, and make it easier for caregivers to do their jobs efficiently and safely. A pilot project for the Green Guide for Health care earning LEED certification, Metro’s many sustainable design features, including an innovative green roof, earned the hospital a 2009 Practice Greenhealth Environmental Leadership Circle Award. It sits at the center of the 170-acre Metro Health Village, which will be home to more than 40 LEED-certified businesses and organizations when completed. The Village is believed to be the first and largest healthcare village in the country comprised entirely of LEED-certified buildings.
