The new patient care tower at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC) with its curved façade and fourth-story roof garden houses the hospital’s Center for Advanced Healing and combines advanced medical technologies and treatments, architectural design principles that aid in healing, and skilled staff to deliver quality care. This nine-story tower also represents spectacular feats of architecture, engineering and construction ingenuity accomplished by a team challenged with carefully siting this building on an existing campus without hindering connectivity and/or functionality with adjacent buildings. Visitor amenities include overnight accommodations, comfortable waiting rooms and a mile-long walking trail. Physicians and hospital staff benefit from ergonomic, efficient and high-tech elements, all intended to reduce stress. SARMC was one of the first hospitals in the nation to join the Pebble Project, a research partnership that examines how facility design impacts quality of care and financial performance.
