Establishing Purdue as a national leader in nanoscale research, the Birck Nanotechnology Research Center has approximately 25,000 square feet of cleanroom space, including a pharmaceutical-grade bio-cleanroom, the largest and cleanest at any U.S. university. The lithography bay maintains less than two-tenths of a degree in temperature variation, with Class 1 particle control, a NIST-A vibration rating and low EMI levels. A separate laboratory complex within the building provides non-cleanroom capabilities for a wide variety of tasks from teaching to high-end microscopy. One pair of laboratories is set up for extreme vibration control, electromagnetic field (emf) shielding and temperature stability.
