MD Anderson is at the forefront of translational medicine, offering less invasive and more attractive options for cancer patients. Targeted cancer therapy, in contrast to conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiation therapy, is directed towards molecular pathways that underlie metastasis. At the heart of this approach is the ability to diagnose and identify cancers at the molecular level, and to provide the most up-to-date and individualized therapeutics. Researchers work alongside clinicians to carefully monitor and adjust treatments to minimize discomfort for the patient and halt the progression of disease.
