The Metropolitan Community College Institute of Culinary Arts is one of the most respected culinary arts schools in the United States. To strengthen its presence as a culinary arts leader, the institute tasked HDR with designing a new state-of-the art culinary arts building that will be a striking representation of the education offered at the institute. The project includes the renovation of an existing building on the College’s campus and a new addition, primarily occupied by the conference functions. The new building will allow the Institute to grow from its current 6,000 square feet to approximately 10,000 square feet of instructional and service space. The planned LEED-certified facility takes inspiration from culinary arts and cooking utensils, such as copper, which is found on the exterior cladding, and glass, which encloses all culinary areas.
