HDR is one of the lead participants in designing and programming multiple correctional units housing 5,000 mental health beds. The units will be split among seven separate sites and will treat a variety of acuity levels. When determining each unit’s design, careful attention was paid to each group's security and programming needs. Planning included user group meetings, capacity studies and process flow mapping. As a result of the detailed planning, special attention is given toward landscaping and aesthetics as these elements can positively contribute to the rehabilitation and re-assimilation of inmates into general population and, ultimately, society.
